District 1 is a small area in central Buda (the western side), including the historic Buda Castle. This is, therefore, the so called "Castle District", as most of it is taken up by the enormous hill with the castle and Matthias Church (Mátyás templom) perched on top. Although the 1st district has relative high rental prices it is marked by lovely views, beautiful many-storied houses at funny angles, and proximity to the river and downtown.

District 2 is the perfect place for families, as many houses are private and even have yards and parks around. There is a definite minimum of riff-raff and low-life bard here. District 2 is home to Rózsadomb (means Rose hill), with many gorgeous, high-rent places; not just trendy, but prestigious.

District 3, also known as Óbuda (Old Buda), is the oldest part of Budapest situated on the right bank of the Danube. It is a trendy neighborhood for big spending yuppies. Lots of developments going on, lots more bars and fine restaurants.

The 4th district of Budapest is called "Újpest", meaning "New Pest". It is a relatively young part of town with a lot of foreign investment

District 5 is located in the absolute center of Pest. This is the place to have a swingin' bachelor pad a hop, skip and jump away from work, banks, restaurants, bars... District 5 includes the Parliament Buildings and many Ministries that make up Hungary’s Administration, and it is also the main financial district of Budapest.

District 6 is the cultural center of Budapest. Andrassy ut is the city's most beautiful boulevard, also known as the "Champs Elysee of Budapest" and leads to the Opera House and Liszt Music Academy. Andrassy is crossed by the "Broadway of Budapest", Nagymezo utca. This social hot spot is host to numerous outdoor cafes and bars that spill on to the pavement in the height of Summer.

District 7, also known as Erzsébetváros is surrounded by Károly körút, Király utca and Rákóczi út. District 7 is a center of Jewish Budapest. It has got it all, from the synagogue neighborhood at one end, chockfull of hopping clubs and music venues, and then streching across the Körút up to Városliget (City Park).

District 8 The up and coming part of Downtown Budapest. Very nice in the area near the national Museum (Nemzeti Múzeum), with park and street renovations improving the face of the neighborhood. The beautiful buildings reflect the fact that there used to be a time when the well-to-do lived here. The government is spending substantial amounts on restoration and rehabilitation.
Landmarks: Eötvös Loránd University, Semmelweis University, Academy of Drama and Film, Metropolitan Library, Hungarian Natural History Museum, Corvin Budapest Film Palace, Chinese Market
Nightlife: Old man's pub
District 9 Nice area with new luxurious riverside apartments, and still grubby edges. The corner closest to the city center of this district has recently become an 'up-and-coming' area with trendy bars and cafés. Not exactly a family neighborhood, but rather filled with trendy bars, new restaurants and new apartment buildings that sprang up virtually overnight.

District 10 Primarily an Industrial sector with a total area of 30 sq km and a population exceeding 87,000. District X is commonly known as Kőbánya and situated in the south eastern part of Pest. It is one of the largest neighbourhoods in Budapest. It is possible to get quickly from this area to the centre of Budapest by underground, bus and tram.

District 11 is situated in the south-western part of Budapest. The most famous part of Ujbuda is Gellert Hill. There are hot springs at the footsteps of it and many spa hotels including legendary Gellert are located here. Beautiful and relatively expensive area of town.

Nightlife: A38, Rio
District 12 is often called 'the lung of Budapest'. Greenery and woods cover the Buda Hills. District 12 is, therefore, a pretty nice and expensive neighborhood. With one hill after another, you've got winding roads, large houses and beautiful hiking trails. Clean air, a couple of bus lines - what more could you ask for?

District 13 a nice neighborhood wedged between Nyugati and the river. Not too busy and not too dull, it may be one of the best parts of the Pest side that can still be called downtown.

Nightlife: Holdudvar, Copacabana Beach, ChaChaCha, West Balkan

District 14 Very green for pest, relatively quiet, and populated mostly with family homes. Just on the other side of Városliget (City park), district 14 is not far off the beaten trail, yet its only major forms of transportation are one stop on the yellow M1 line, the end of the red M2 line, and many trams and trolley-buses criss-crossing over it.
Landmarks: Városliget city park, Szechenyi Fürdo (most famous thermal bath)

District 15 This small suburb today is a pleasant backwater with a quiet market-town atmosphere. It's landmarks are some lovely old villas and three small churches. Unfortunately the M3 freeway cut it in half, but the leafy gardens, narrow streets and Art Deco buildings breathe a special ambience.

The 16th district of Budapest is mostly a green and suburban environment away from traffic and businesses.

The 17th district of Budapest is called "Rákosmente" and is where the airport is located.

District 18 This district is mainly a suburb, with some pleasant private house areas and lots of housing estates.
Landmarks: Ferihegy Airport, Hungarian Meteorological Service, Central Atmospheric Institute
The 19th district of Budapest is also known as "Kispest", meaning "Little Pest". This is mostly a calm but nice residential area.

The 20th district of Budapest is called "Pesterzsébet". This is mostly a suburban area.

The 21st district of Budapest is called "Csepel". It is the northern part of the Csepel Island and neither part of Buda nor pest. Today this area is mostly residential.

District 22 Budafok-Tétény is Budapest's District 22, located in the southwestern area of the capital, on the Buda side of the Danube. Budafok is called the town of wine and champagne and Hungary’s major wine and champagne companies have set up in the district.

District 23 The 23rd district of Budapest is called "Soroksár".
